Hakurei is a sweet salad turnip and is delicious raw. Tops are also tasty and extremely nutritious!
Scrub with a vegetable brush if necessary. You don’t need to peel them, just trim off any not perfect portions.
Remove greens and store turnips unwashed in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
The greens are also tasty and can be used like chard or kale or collards. Store wrapped in a damp towel or in a plastic bag in the veggie drawer of the refrigerator.
Slice into rounds or sticks and combine with your favorite dip. Chop and add to salads.
Boil small whole turnips for 15-20 minutes; steam 20-25 minutes. You can also bake with butter or oil at 350 for 30-45 minutes.
Roast alongside meat.
Add cubes to hearty soups or slice thinly into stir-fires.
Mash or scallop like you would potatoes.
